A road trip back to Jeongseon

We are all caught up on our events ay Jeongseon so TD Thomas, Michaela and myself went back to Jeongseon to watch the Ladies Downhill.  Thomas and I visited with the Race Administrator, Lucy who was able to get out of her dungeon for a bit...

It was a perfect day for a downhill.  We watched from the Team Zone and I stood with Amber from Alpine Canada.

Race favorite, Lindsey Vonn came down and was in second place until...

....Norway's Mowinckel came down wearing Bib 19 and seem a bit surprised with her silver medal performance...

Undaunted, Lindsey did the stroll down media outlet lane and seemed pleased with her Bronze...

Media lane got pretty distracting for the athletes as FIS Andi had to retrieve Gold medal winner, Sofia Goggia so she wasn't late for the venue winner ceremony....

The Korean words on the left says 'Thank you to all the event volunteers'.  I didn't catch a pic of the English version but just caught the switch to Korean....so you are going to have to trust me on what it says.

At the venue ceremony, the medalists are acknowledged and receive a Soohorang stuffy. They receive their medals at the Medal Plaza ceremony later that evening.

They pose for the usual photos - separate..

together...

and with flags...

Then it got weird.
Sofia got down on the snow - behind the podium and said a prayer and kissed the snow. She then realized the photographers couldn't see what she was doing - so she repeated the whole process in front of the podium. Some of the Italian Ski Federation were standing behind me yelling at her - afraid that she was going to kneel on their nation's flag.

It all worked out, she said her snow prayers, the photographers got their shots and the Italian flag wasn't disrespected.

As I was not on skis, I had to use the pedestrian egress from the finish area - which is either a chairlift download or a casual walk down a easy path.  The workforce came prepared with signs that made the choice easy....

I walked.

After I got down to the IF Lounge, I stopped to say hello to the ladies that were so helpful in our time there. They appreciated what few thank you trinkets I brought - Canada mitts and Canada mitt keychains. They were photobombed by the Alpine Manager, Jon who should be pleased with how his Games have gone.  We all are.
