And at the start, I was able to enjoy a spectacular Olympic sunrise...
The full jury comes through for course inspection prior to the athletes being allowed to do their inspection. Nobu from Japan, our Finish Referee dropped by the start for a visit before jury inspection. On the jury, we aren't all business - we are allowed to have a bit of fun - it's the Olympics for us too.
and I am getting better at taking a take a selfie....sort of.
My Russian Start Crew likes to have fun as well - here they are getting a little crazy before we get busy...
The pictures are deceiving - the wind gusts were nuts at the start and near the jumps. It was a brisk -28 with the wind chill.
But after the sunny start to the day, it literally went downhill from there. Even before we sent the athletes up for their pre-race inspection, the jury cancelled the day's race. With the winds gusting so badly, we didn't want the DH Olympic champion getting on top of the podium just because he won the Wind Lottery. We have a number of options over the next days to complete the schedule.
Those folks that came all the way here to watch the race were left with little to do. Everyone was disappointed including those back home who organized viewing parties on Saturday night.
That's the Olympics for ya - when we crown the Olympic champion, it will be worth it.

Great post Brian. Just terrific to get the "inside the ropes" perspective from S Korea
